Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

ABDM has been launched by the Government to digitise healthcare in India by developing an integrated digital health infrastructure aimed at making healthcare more accessible, affordable, reliable and efficient for all citizens.

What is Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission?

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is a government initiative to develop an integrated digital health infrastructure in India. Under ABDM, every citizen in the country is issued with a digital health ID, known as the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), and digital health lockers are provided to them to store their health records digitally.

ABDM is also creating an online healthcare ecosystem that standardizes health facilities, registers health professionals and allows people to easily access & share their health records with multiple healthcare providers. Thus, ABDM bridges the gap between the patients, healthcare providers, policymakers and other stakeholders within the health ecosystem.

Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission in August 2020, it was rolled out throughout the country on 27 September 2021. National Health Authority (NHA) is the nodal agency for ABDM.
